Hey everyone, Keith here. Wrapped up today’s show with Matt Shoup and I wanted to share the key message of the show.
The life of a visionary
Have you ever shared an epic idea that you just KNEW would work, only to be met by blank expressions?
That’s the life of a visionary.
As today’s Live in the Lab guest, Matt Shoup, aptly put it: visionaries need to remember that they move faster than other people.
Rightly or wrongly, thinking outside the box can be equally frustrating for you as a visionary and those around you. When it comes to sharing your innovative ideas with the world, effective communication is key.
Here are 5 tips to keep in mind when interacting with others:
1️⃣ Simplify:
It may make sense in your head, but those ideas are complex. Break them down into simple, relatable concepts to make it easier for others to understand and share your vision.
2️⃣ Practice Active Listening:
You may be the mastermind, but you’ll need people with analytical prowess and other skills to execute that vision. Actively listen to their perspectives.
Being open to different viewpoints can refine your ideas and build better relationships.
3️⃣ Use Storytelling to your Advantage:
Craft compelling stories around your ideas to engage and captivate other people. This will make your vision more relatable and memorable.
4️⃣ Bridge the Gap:
Recognize that others see circles while you see squares. It’s your responsibility to use relatable analogies to bridge the gap between your visionary thinking and others' perspectives.
5️⃣ Practice Empathy and Patience:
Be empathetic to the challenges others might face in understanding your vision, because you need them to make it a reality. Patience is your ally in bringing others on board.
Share your visionary communication challenges or success stories in the comments below and if you like what we are doing,
Cheers
Keith
