Welcome to the weekly recap, Nation.
We debated gym culture, shared stories that will have you shaking your head, and dove into real-life strategies for success. From gym mishaps to deep discussions on adapting and thriving, we’ve got everything you need to stay entertained and inspired while chasing your biggest, most audacious goals.
Let’s talk about what went down in the Lab this week.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE MORNING LOOP
The week kicked off with some serious selfie reflection. Keith posed the big question on Monday: “Are we spending too much time snapping gym pics and not enough time actually working out?” The conversation spiraled into whether the gym had become a fitness center or a social club.
Kristina, fresh off a kettlebell workout that had her feeling every muscle, laughed her way through the pain, while the crew celebrated Marty’s successful weekend selling his Less Brunches, More Crunches merch at his pop-up.
Of course, Jon had to share his “shrieking like a baby” nerve-pinch story.
Seriously, picture a giant guy bending over in a gas station bathroom line, scaring everyone away with a random yelp.
You can’t make this stuff up.
On Tuesday, Keith teased a future without remote work by 2027.
Jon’s response? “That’s cool... for people who actually went to an office in the first place!” Marty chimed in and agreed that no one’s dragging him or Jon to an office. Ever.
Adapt or die, right?
Wednesday started off with Keith attempting a bagpipe-fueled dance to get everyone’s morning going.
Once everyone was done questioning his Scottish heritage, some seriously good banter continued with endurance athlete Rich Ingram, who shared why business and endurance sports are two sides of the same coin. Jon chimed in with his story about chewing whole eggs, shells and all, while Marty gagged in the background.
The topic might’ve been about endurance, but Marty’s endurance for Jon’s eating habits hit an all-time low.
Thursday's show brought all the "what kind of life are you writing?" vibes with Seth Kuhn as the guest.
But first…
Let's talk about Jon, who almost missed the entire second half of the show after Keith dropped a "big announcement" teaser. Apparently, the suspense was too much, and Jon was ready to make a run for the bathroom for a number 2. (But he held out.)
Then there was Friday... and Jon’s infamous naked workout story.
Apparently, the big guy was in the middle of some pull-ups when the bar broke, sending him crashing to the floor—completely butt naked. His wife, Terry, found him mid-crisis, lying flat on his back with the pull-up bar across his chest.
The crew also celebrated almost 1,000 people tuning in for the show the previous day. We’re growing by the day, and it’s all thanks to YOU—the people who choose to spend their mornings with us.

THE DEEP STUFF: KEY TOPICS OF THE WEEK
The Rise of Gym Selfies: A Deep Dive into Social Media's Influence on Fitness Culture
With 43% of gym-goers feeling pressured to post their workouts online, Marty and Jon debated whether the gym has become a performance venue instead of a place for self-improvement. But here's the twist: 70% of people say social media has inspired them to hit the gym.
Is this the new reality, or are we losing sight of why we train in the first place?

Mastering Adaptability: How to Use It for Success and Personal Growth
40% of businesses fail because they don’t adapt to market changes. Special guest Adam House shared insights on why entrepreneurs often fall in love with their initial vision, refusing to pivot.
But as Adam pointed out, the key to survival is knowing when to stick with the plan and when to evolve. Jon, a master of adapting throughout his strongman and wrestling careers, added that small pivots can make all the difference in staying on track.
Marty shared how he had to adapt during the pandemic by creating his own workouts and finding new ways to train clients when gyms were closed. His takeaway? “We have control over our reality. You can either sit back and complain or figure out how to make it work.”
If you’re not adjusting to the winds of change, you’re setting yourself up to fail.
Habits Of Highly Effective Endurance Athletes
From relentless goal-setting to mastering recovery, Mornings in the Lab co-host, Rich Ingram, emphasized that success requires consistency and a strong support system.
Jon reminded us that life is the ultimate endurance sport, and that rest isn’t a weakness—it’s essential. Whether in business or athletics, learning to push through discomfort and prioritize recovery is what separates the pros from the amateurs.
Rewriting Your Life Story: Creating the Future You Want
Seth Kuhn joined the crew to share his story of juggling a day job, raising two young kids, and still finding time to pursue his passion—learning to code.
Keith dropped a staggering stat: 74% of people feel stuck in a “good enough” job but are too scared to make a change. Seth offered a blueprint for escaping that trap: carve out time every day, even if it’s just an hour, to work on your dreams.
Jon summed it up best: “Stop watching Dancing with the Stars and invest your time in something that will bring real value to your life.”
The System That Changed My Life: Lessons on Success from Top Entrepreneurs
Dr. Monica Rysavy joined the crew to break down a big topic: burnout.
With 72% of entrepreneurs struggling with mental health, she stressed the importance of having systems to manage time, energy, and focus. Systems aren’t just for business—they help protect mental wellness too.
Marty shared that without systems, “you’re always chasing your tail, and burnout becomes inevitable.”
The team agreed that while hustle culture glorifies grinding, true success comes from working smarter, not harder, by adopting systems that keep you on track.

IN THE GYM WITH JON & MARTY: HIGHLIGHTS
Keep It Simple—Don’t Get Lost in the Details
Ever walk into the gym, overwhelmed by all the equipment and unsure where to start?
Jon’s advice: “Follow the spirit of what you’re supposed to do.”
If it’s chest day, don’t stress about finding the perfect machine—just drop down and do some pushups.
Marty added that simplicity always wins: “The people you want to look like? They’re doing the basics—bench press, squats, and a few key moves. You don’t need fancy equipment to get results.”
Don’t overthink it. Just show up, put in the work, and keep it consistent.
Chasing Failure—The Path to Growth
Jon took us deep into his strongman mindset—the relentless pursuit of failure.
He shared how, early in his training, he learned that getting his “ass kicked” in the gym was essential to pushing his limits.
“I started squatting with no safety bars, knowing I would crash—and that’s how I got stronger,” Jon said.
Marty added that failure is key to progress: “If you’re scared to fail, you’re not growing.”
Don’t fear failure—it’s only temporary, and on the other side, you’ll meet a stronger version of yourself.
Wrestling in North Korea—Jon's Wildest Journey
Wednesday’s In the Gym took a detour into one of Jon’s most surreal experiences—wrestling in North Korea.
Jon shared how he was flown into the country with MMA fighter Bob Sapp, escorted by police, and closely monitored every step of the way. From strict rules about where to look in the arena to having his hands yanked out of his pockets for disrespecting protocol, Jon gave us a glimpse into life in one of the most secretive nations on Earth.
And the craziest part? He walked away with a North Korean passport stamp—one of the rarest souvenirs you could imagine.
No Gym? No Problem—Creative Ways to Train Anywhere
Jon and Marty shared tips on how to stay in shape without a gym.
Whether you're traveling, stuck in a small space, or just can’t make it to the gym, Jon emphasized that you can always get a workout in.
“Bodyweight squats, pushups, lunges—you don’t need fancy equipment,” Jon said.
Marty added that intensity is key when you’re short on time: “Even 20 minutes of bodyweight exercises to failure will kick your butt.”
Don’t let the lack of a gym hold you back. Your body is your gym.
The 10 Commandments of Fitness
From staying consistent and mastering technique to tailoring your diet and avoiding excuses, these commandments are the foundation of a successful fitness journey—or are they? Marty and Jon dug into these commandments with their own opinions.
Jon emphasized that fitness isn’t a short-term project: “First, it’s a habit. Then, it’s a lifestyle. Eventually, it becomes part of who you are.”
Marty added, “Don’t overthink the gear—just show up and get the work in.”
Fitness is a long game, and consistency beats perfection every time.
